2009 STATEMENT
This body of work deals with the complexity of simplified form. Using simplified forms, such as the circle and square, the challenge is to build drawings that offer reference to complex structures. These complex constructed drawings reference architectural forms and allude to holy spaces in Greek, Mayan and Mughal architecture.
The drawings also investigate the use of the grid, and its visually seductive qualities. Thinking of the grid as a masculine form, curving and bending the grid is to feminize it. The feminization of a masculine form, while referencing holy spaces, circulates the idea of the god and goddess, and the integration of the masculine and the feminine.
