BIOGRAPHY

Shannon Cannings was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and spent half of her junior year at Temple in Rome, Italy. She received her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Cannings’ work has been included in exhibitions in Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Texas. She has had solo shows in Houston, Lubbock, Pittsburgh, Providence, and Syracuse. Cannings’ has taught at the university level for 10 years and currently teaches drawing at Texas Tech University.

Shannon Cannings’ paintings are sometimes funny, nostalgic, innocent and kitsch. Her work explores Americana, consumerism, and the plastic veneer that we spread around us and call comfort.
